As lead master planner and landscape architects REALMstudios have reconfigured this regionally significant place of sports culture to become the Central Park of Albany, a key plank in Albany’s history and future identity.
In the REALMstudios plan, Centennial Park has been reconceived from a series of disconnected and disparate sites to a connected, legible, contemporary, multifunctional and multi-generational 2.5km linear parkland, which clearly expresses its sporting, community and environmental values.
Central to the plan has been the successful insertion of the new central pedestrian promenade that successfully links sporting venues, activity nodes and sports fields in a safe, legible and clearly articulated manner, while vehicles and vehicle movements/car parking are managed at the perimeter of the site.
The $46mill plan will be implemented in stages through a decanting and restructuring process across sporting seasons to maintain site use and activity over a two-year time-frame.
