elara park

REALMstudios were engaged by Stockland to deliver a neighbourhood park as part of their inclusive new community housing development in Marsden Park in Sydney.

The design responds to its broader context through its physical and environmental expressions. It introduces topography in the form of a series of large turf/planted mounds to echo and to capitalize on the distant views of the Blue Mountains. The mounds provide structure and create defined entry points. Stands of native trees on the flattened tops of the mounds provide shade and comfortable vantage points to view park activities as well as capture the vistas beyond. The mounds frame a large open lawn area for both passive and active recreation including nature play areas for younger children.

Through site links to a central community gathering space and focal point for the park being a large custom designed shade structure which speaks to the sites natural materiality and geometry and as a response to the local multicultural demographic ie to accommodate large family gatherings.
