Melbourne Water Education Precinct awarded at 2024 AILA Victoria Awards

Last night REALMstudios was recognised at the AILA Victoria Awards, receiving the Health and Education Landscape Award for our Melbourne Water Education Precinct. The Precinct is a story of recovery, restoration and reimagination, using water, matter and memory, reanimating and curating objects and ideas into a new poetic narrative for the site. It is an inversion of sorts, across shifting territories: land, water, material re-use.

“The jury commended the striking composition of the immersive educational park. Surfacing elements of the old industrial sewage infrastructures, the design creates a framework for engaging visitor experiences and events, aiming to uncover and decolonialise our historic infrastructure.Large, salvaged pipes and repurposed artefacts guide visitors on foot through various treatment types and processes, offering a new perspective on water restoration. The experience amidst the grasslands, while framed for sewage treatment, connects to Country, flora, fauna, cultural and hydrological processes past and present.” AILA Victoria Jury Citation
