UTAS Masterplan receives Commendation for Leadership, Advocacy and Research
At the 2021 Australian Urban Design Awards, REALMstudios was honoured to receive a Commendation for 'Leadership, Advocacy and Research' for our UTAS Masterplan project .
This thoughtful urban design framework was prepared in support of the University of Tasmania’s planned move from suburban Sandy Bay into Hobart’s city centre. It advocates a compelling vision for the future campus, describing in clear graphic and written form how it will link people and activities within and across shared precincts, and the ways in which this new city neighbourhood might tactically transition into a hybrid form.
The move supports the university’s aim to reinforce and further develop its cultural, social and economic relationships within the city, leading to possibilities in collaborative teaching, learning and research, business and economic development. The masterplan describes opportunities to conceive and deliver best-practice sustainable city-making and positive place outcomes that will result in a network of exemplary urban spaces, fully integrated into the broader ecological and city frameworks.
The jury unanimously agreed that this project was outstanding for its clear urban design intent and the rigorous engagement, planning and analysis applied in its formulation.
